Chapter 1.12: Sinister Surgeries and Sweet Surprises
It's been a bit since Charley started officially dating Akira. He's been over every night since their first date. And despite her tiny home, he has more than made himself comfortable. And even though she usually sleeps in, Akira takes care not to disturb her as he takes care of his needs. Though, what's this, who could Akira be intently messaging this early in the morning. Charley will never know cause she sleep all the way to her alarm.
Sleeping in til her alarm has its benefits and downfalls. She usually is rushed out the door so quickly that she barely gets to say goodbye Akira. But on the other hand she's never late and always well rested for the day, even if she has to shower and eat breakfast at work.
Though on one hand, someone finally started taking advantage of the karaoke machine that she convinced her coworkers to chip in on. One of these days they'll have to have their own karaoke contest. It was certainly quality entertainment while she enjoyed her mediocre breakfast.
This morning it worked out cause there weren't any patients available to treat. So Charley was able to enjoy her breakfast. Though it was short lived when a certain someone showed up seeking treatment. Remember the food swiper?
Well, Charley needed to perform 3 surgeries, so she couldn't be picky with her patients especially since no one had shown up yet. Charley took her time checking her giving her a thorough treat despite her dislike of the woman.
"Alright, Krusty... Looking over your results, I had to say, but I've determined you're suffering from Burnin' Belly. Which means I'll have to take you into surgery..." Charley went on to explain as she flipped through her charts. "There is no other solution."
"Oh uh... okay..." Krusty sputtered, now nervous that her known enemy is about the cut her stomach open.
"If you'll follow me, I'll get you set up."
Uh... Charley... What are you doing, Charley? What's with that look on your face? No... Put it back. You don't need to be sued for malpractice.
It was easy to ignore the voice in her head for a little bit, but after a moment of fun, she knew that the voice was right and went back to correcting the issue at hand.
Krusty was able to walk out of the hospital cured of her illness, but she still couldn't shake the thought that there might be something new or missing from inside of her. What a drama queen.
Charley managed to squeeze in one more surgery before the day ended, but not without catching a bug of her own.
Later that night, Penny called her and invited her out to Planet Honey Pop. Different place than usual, this one was far most spacious though. It was most certainly a pleasant surprise to see the bun number two was cooking in the oven. "Oh what do we have here..." Charley asked as she placed both hands on her belly. "In my medical expertise. I expect a cute little baby boy in your future."
"Ah shucks, I was really hoping for a little girl this time around. Well maybe next time." Penny smiled. She was just happy to have a growing family, even if they live in a tiny apartment.
"So what are we doing on this side of town?" Charley asked glancing around.
Penny smirked to herself as Akira sneaked up from behind Charley. "Well it was sorta my idea." He explained as he pressed a quick kiss to her cheek. "Ah, so you're the mastermind behind this whole idea. "Come on inside, we're having a celebration."
Akira took a mic for himself before tossing her the other one. "Ready?" He asked as the music started playing in. "Don't go breaking my heart!"
Charley grinned at him as she accepted the mic. The music was a dead giveaway but she liked the song. "I couldn't if I tried..."
They both sang their hearts out, dancing away throughout the song. No one cared if they were good or bad. They were cheering and singing along with them. Maybe in the past Charley would've been nervous to sing in front of such a large crowd, but she felt like she could do anything with Akira by her side.
After the song came to an end, Akira took her by the hand and gave her a twirl before bending her over and kissing her with all the love in his heart.
The crowd went wild as he did so, but he didn't put down the mic. instead he started talking.
"Char, from the moment I laid eyes on you, I had given you my heart. And now I want to give you everything with it. Will you, Charley Little, become my wife?" Akira asked as he dropped down to one knee in front of her.
Charley could say she wasn't expecting this. She was merely thinking they should move in, but she already knew in her heart that this was what she wanted. She nodded eagerly. "Yes! Absolutely yes." She responded as he slid the ring onto her finger.
Gosh darn it. These two are just too cute.
As the excitement of the engagement cooled off, Charley slipped away to talk to her best friend. "So... How much did you have a hand in this."
Penny chuckled. "Not much, honestly. He texted me early this morning and told me to get everyone who was available to come out. I merely invited everyone, it was all his idea."
Charley smile to herself, her fiance sure did know her well. She was lucky to have him in her life. "Well, it goes without saying, that I would love to have you as my maid of honor."
Penny smiled. "Belly and all?"
"I wouldn't have it any other way."
