Little Legacy: Chapter 1.13

Chapter 1.13: Nerves

The day of the wedding arrived sooner than expected. And naturally, Charley made sure that her husband-to-be, didn't get any sneak peaks of his bride early on. So after a private celebration of their own, Charley sent Akira home late last night to ensured that he finished packing up his belongings. Since after tonight, they'd officially be living together.

Charley started her morning making some eggs. But her inexperience lead to more trouble.

How the heck was she supposed to be a good wife and one day mother if she couldn't cook eggs properly... At least she was brave enough to put out the fire and protect anyone in danger. Hopefully Akira was better at cooking. She hardly trusted herself not to burn the kitchen down.

Apparently the stress of the fire in her house stared by her, was enough to stress out Mortimer Goth to the point that he needed to take a citrus bath in her tub. They haven't even been properly introduced and yet he's over here bathing like it's no big deal.

So she tried making a BLT instead, only to nearly sever her fingertips on numerous occasions. It wasn't like she was tense or upset. She was happy about her upcoming wedding and couldn't wait to start her new life with Akira. Perhaps she caught something more than just a slight fever at work yesterday.

By the time she finished eating, she was nothing but a bundle of nerves. Were they moving too quickly? Was he not the one? What if this legacy has something else in mind? Is she on the wrong path? She needed to talk to the one person who may not have all the answers, but knew how to calm her. Her mom.

"Oh hi sweetie!" Her mom's voice greeted her a few moments later. "We can't wait to see you and meet this handsome boy you've been telling us all about!"

"Charley, Just so you know, the airport staff is telling us that weather conditions are worsening, so we're trying to get there as safely as we can." Her father spoke leaning towards the phone. "I'd expect we'd be there in about..." He was cut off as it her mother moved away from him so he wasn't taking over the conversation.

"Don't worry about us, dear. We're fine, what about you? I wouldn't expect you to call unless you had something on your mind." Her mother asked, jumping straight to the point.

Charley explained how she felt that she wasn't qualified and that she wasn't so sure anymore.

"Darling, you don't have to be perfect to be in love. I remember when your father and I were first married, he flooded the entire apartment trying fix the sink. And I can't count the number of burnt grilled cheese your father ate without complaint. And not to mention your father faints at the sight of any sort of crawler. I'm the one who takes care of any pest problems." Her mother explained happily. "but the reason we do these things is because we love each other and we lean on each other for support and encouragement. So if you feel that Akira isn't ready to support you nor are you ready to support him, then yes it's probably not a good idea to get married. But if you're willing to do anything for him and he is to you, then I see nothing wrong."

"Thanks Mom. You always know how to pick me up."

"I do what I can, so why don't you call up your friend and you two just relax for the rest of the afternoon."

"Thanks again. Love you! See you soon." Charley hung up with her Mom. She was excited to see them again, though she was a little worried about the weather in Willow Creek.

Charley called Penny and she said she'd be free in a few hours, she had to clean up Colton and feed him before dropping him off at his grandparents for the evening. After that though, she offered to go check out the Romance festival, there's a guru there that seems to know her stuff.

Charley agreed and decided to do some painting in the mean time. Halfway through the painting, the remnants of her foul tasting BLT made it's way back up and all over the yard. Well that was at least one mystery solved for the uneasy in her belly. She was already feeling ten times better.

"I'm sorry this is the best I could do for a bachelorette party." Penny apologized when they first meet up in downtown San Myshuno. "They wouldn't let me book a spa day for us as a result of this little guy." But I promise whenever I don't have this belly, we can take a trip down to Sulani and party on the beach."

Charley laughed. She truly didn't need any of that. She was just happy that she could spend quality time with her best friend. "You know this tea makes me want to skip on all formalities and sneak into Akira's room and do also sorts of unthinkable things."

Penny grinned. "Give it a few hours and he'll be yours to do whatever you like. The question is, are you still nervous?"

Shaking her head, Charley smiled. "I'm more than ready for this next step."

"Well shall we go see what this guru has to say?" Penny asked looking questionably over at the so-called guru.

After some elaborate chanting and some arm waving, this was the best the guru could come up with.

"Do you even know my fiance's name?" Charley asked, trying to suppress a snicker.

The guru stared at her a little taken aback... "Uh...  Marcus?"

That was enough for Charley. And doubts or worries about the future just faded. And whatever this legacy was, she was certain it wouldn't be possible without Akira by her side. Perhaps she'd pursue answers soon enough, for now, this night was for her and Akira.
