Little Legacy: Chapter 1.17

Chapter 1.17: Future Planning

This has been pregnancy summed up in one photo. Bladder constantly full, always hungry, and all over aches and pains. How did other women make this look easy? Take Penny for example, she spent the entire day with Charley on her wedding day and she was so pregnant at the time that her water broke during the reception.

Just breathe, Charley. Just breathe. She had to keep reminding herself that it'd all be over sooner.
Things might've been easier for her if Akira didn't have to work that day. He seemed to keep her level headed with all this stuff. Not to mention, he made hellava good grilled cheese, and man did that sound so good right now.
Focus Charley! The only person who can make you grilled cheese is you. She scolded herself as she pushed herself to do something that wasn't complaining.

Charley made her way outside to start on some paintings so that she could restock her Plopsy store, when she got a phone call from Penny.
"Hear you've been having a rough time with the whole pregnancy thing..." Penny almost made it sound easy.
"You have no id... Well maybe you do, but damnit Penny, why did you have to make it look so glorious." Charley whined as the baby pushed up against her bladder for the third time that morning.
"Don't worry, dear, I'll be right over." And she hung up.
One and half bathroom trips later, Penny was knocking on her doorstep.
"I know you've done this twice already. But you got to let me in on your secret. I saw you at the wedding. You were up and about, dancing, celebrating and having a grand ol' time up until your water broke." Charley shook her head in disbeleif trying imagine doing all that in her current condition.
"Wanna know the secret? It was my second pregnancy..." Penny chuckled. "When I was pregnant with Colton, I was just as miserable as you are now. I would fall asleep in just about any location I could find. And if I wasn't sleeping, I was making various trips to the fridge or the bathroom. Trust me, I was as big of a mess the first time around as you are now."

"I promise it'll all be worth it soon enough. Though it still may not feel that way between all the screaming and dirty diapers." Penny laughed as she pressed her hands up to Charley's belly, only to be greeted by a series of kicks in return. "And don't worry, it gets easier the more you have."
Charley's heart swelled with pride and love for this tiny human. Penny helped ease her mind and having someone here to talk to made it easier to distract from the uncomfortableness that she was experiencing.
Penny spend the rest of the afternoon at the house doing some light cleaning and making a quick lunch for the two of them.
When Akira phone to let Charley know he was headed home, Penny took that a her cue to get back to her own husband and children. "You'll be fine, I know it. Call me if you need anything."
Charley promised she would and took a quick nap while waiting for Akira to make it home.
Akira brought good news home with him. He earned his first promotion at work. Charley was so proud of him! "Though this might be the last one for a while..." He added with a shrug.
"Why's that?" Charley wondered, then it dawned on her. He worked in the technical field, doing lots of computer work. But in their tiny home, there isn't any space to set up a computer. So he wouldn't be able to expand on his skills until they got one. And since they've been saving up most of their money to build their dream home, buying a computer wasn't a top priority.
"Nope, I won't accept that. C'mon, we're going out." She wasn't going to let his career suffer on her behalf.

She called up a cab and headed out to Windenburg where she lead him over to the computer section. "I know the internet isn't exactly ideal, but it's better than nothing."
He offered her a small smile and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. "You sure? I know this exactly where you want to be this evening."
"I'll be fine. If you need me, you can find me near the restrooms." She teased, pressing a quick kiss to his forehead as she headed for the chess tables.
Akira spent his time practice his programming and studying some video games.

On the other side of the library, Charley was staring out the cold frosted windows. Winterfest was approaching and so was the little one. They would need to expand their house to make space for the baby. So perhaps she would include an area for Akira to do his work. Maybe a good Winterfest gift would be a computer of his own.
While pondering over her chess strategies, she found herself thinking about that dream home again. She had moved to Del Sol Valley because she was young and was seeking the adventure of making it big, but was that what she truly wanted. But now, the idea of curling up by the fire with her family and her love, drinking hot chocolate and sheltering from the cold sounded much more ideal in her mind.
They didn't stay too late in Windenburg. As soon as Akira was finished with what he was studying they headed straight back home and were in bed by 11 am. But at 2:40 am, a series of events started that caused a chain reaction.

This is Charley's "I'm finally in labor" face

Meet Archer "Stinky Butt" Little.

"Happy Winterfest, Akira. Let's go home..."
